Years of campaigning may have been for nothing, as real progress for animals could be undone if the Indian government goes ahead with plans to reverse its ban on cruel events involving bulls, such as bull races, bullfights and jallikattu – in which these animals are chased, kicked and punched.
Today, a crowd of PETA supporters gathered in front of the Indian Embassy in London to urge the government to offer bulls the protection they deserve.
Video footage from jallikattu events shows that terrified bulls are deliberately disoriented, chased, kicked, punched, jumped on, dragged to the ground and stabbed, and people even twist and bite the animals’ tails. Numerous people, including spectators, have been seriously injured or killed by bulls at jallikattu events. As part of the “game”, the animals are intentionally frightened to make them act “wild”.
All around the world, people have been speaking out against plans to make this cruelty legal again. Please add your voice.
