Pretty soon, the only place you’ll be able to find a battery cage may be in a museum. In a major announcement this week, Rembrandt Foods (the nation’s third-biggest egg producer) proclaimed it’s abandoning cages in favor of a “cage-free future.”

And to put the enormity of this announcement into context: In 2010, HSUS conducted an investigation of both Rembrandt Foods as well as a company called Rose Acre Farms (the second-largest egg producer), both of which defended cage confinement at the time. Now, just five years later, both of those companies have committed to switching to 100{ae720e0b436026f867bfa0c31185c2252a138f27e85f5f152ec5acc1c10a8cc9} cage-free production.
